Forex - EUR/JPY dips ahead of E.U. finance ministers meeting By ...

Forexpros - The euro weakened against the yen in Asian trading on Monday as investors sold the European common currency to await the results of an E.U. summit of finance ministers.

Weak jobs data out of the U.S. on Friday fueled demand for safe-haven currencies like the yen, which further weakened the euro.

In Asian trading on Monday, EUR/JPY hit 97.56, down 0.31%, up from a low of 97.49 and off a high of 97.86.

The pair sought to test support at 97.05, the low of June 5, and resistance at 98.33, the high of June 28.

European finance ministers are set to meet this week to discuss ways to tackle the debt crisis, and while past summits have often produced arguably toothless policy commitments, more recent meeting have led to more concrete measures designed to firewall and extinguish the crisis.

Still, investors sold to await the results.

The euro was also lower on U.S. jobs data that broke last week.

On Friday in the U.S., the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the economy added a net 80,000 nonfarm payrolls in June, below market forecasts for a gain of around 90,000.

April figures were revised to 68,000 from 77,000 nonfarm payrolls, while May's numbers were? revised to 77,000 from 69,000.

Investors worldwide sold higher-yielding currencies and stocks and flocked to safe-haven currencies such as the dollar as well as the yen.

The risk-off trading session continued early Monday, which sent the euro falling against the Japanese currency.

The euro dipped also on the heels of a European Central Bank decision to trim its benchmark interest rate 25 basis points to 0.75%.

A Bank of England decision to inject GBP50 billion into the economy via stimulus measures followed by interest rate cuts in China sent the yen climbing as well.

The euro, meanwhile, was down against the pound and down against the Canadian dollar, with EUR/GBP trading down 0.09%? at 0.7926 and EUR/CAD down 0.08% and trading at 1.2514.

Later Monday in the eurozone, a Sentix report on investor confidence will publish.

ECB President Mario Draghi will testify before the European Parliament in Brussels.
