Mayor: Drought order ?threatening?

Marble Falls Mayor George Russell said the recent emergency drought order passed by the Lower Colorado River Authority could threaten Lake Marble Falls and the safety of the town?s residents.

The mayor was speaking at the City Council meeting on Tuesday during a presentation by City Manager Ralph Hendricks on the city's efforts to improve water capacity and usage for residents.

During his update, he also informed council members about what the LCRA order could mean for Marble Falls? residents. A resolution asking the LCRA to reconsider their decision will go before council Dec. 18, Hendricks said. During the same meeting, a representative from the LCRA is scheduled to be present.

"Lake Marble Falls could be put in jeopardy,? Russell said. "If something were to happen, [Lake] Marble Falls would be among the first impacted.?

In November, the LCRA Board approved a new emergency drought order that would result in 121,500 acre feet of water being released to downstream rice farmers in the spring if the combined storage of lakes Buchanan and Travis was 775,000 acre feet or more on Jan. 1 or March 1.
