Former church volunteer faces child porn charges

CAMAS, Wash. ? A 24-year-old church volunteer from Vancouver was arrested this week and charged with possessing and distributing child pornography.

Bradley J. Gilliam was arrested on Tuesday, according to U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement spokesman Andrew Munoz. ICE is the agency tasked with stopping the trafficking of child pornography.

Agents and local police searched a search warrant at Gilliam?s house last summer and said they seized a laptop and several other storage devices. Forensic analysts found thousands of images and videos of kids engaging in sexual activity, Munoz said.

Investigators said Gilliam traded child porn, including images of toddlers, on peer-to-peer networks using the username ?Bllover69.? They used that username to track an IP address used at Gilliam?s Vancouver home.

Munoz said Gilliam was enrolled in classes to become a child sex abuse counselor and that he also volunteered with a youth group at Camas Grace Church.

Agents alerted officials at Camas Grace Church when they first found the pornography and he was immediately banned from participating in youth activities.

Pastor Dave McCave at the church said Gilliam had only volunteered with them for a brief time before he was let go because of the investigation.

McCave said Gilliam helped with simple things like setting up chairs and was never alone with kids. McCave added that nothing came up in a background check they ran on him.

A?court document filed in the case shows that Gilliam was investigated in 2003 for a child rape in Camas, but that charges weren't pursued at the request of the victim's parents. Gilliam was just 15 years old at the time.

Gilliam has his next court appearance on Monday in federal court in Tacoma.
