Louisiana Golf Association releases sites, dates for 2013 championships

This week?s gloomy weather can easily depress, especially if you?re a golfer. But we?re already halfway through February and, before you know it, spring will have area golf courses bustling with growth and activity.

If you want to take your mind off the weather and get it on the coming warmer days of spring and summer, go to the Louisiana Golf Association?s web site, www.LGAgolf.org, to see the list of championships for this year.

In fact, online registration has begun for the first event of 2013, the LGA Club Team Championship, which will be played at Oak Wing Golf Club in Alexandria on April 27-28. The Riverlands Golf and Country Club of LaPlace won the event last year.

The LGA?s biggest tournament, the Amateur Championship, will be held June 6-9 at Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport. The New Orleans area qualifying tournament for the Amateur Championship will be held May 14 at Money Hill Golf and Country Club.

Patrick Christovich captured the Amateur title last year, winning at TPC Louisiana. Christovich also won the LGA Mid-Am as well as The Mackel, the New Orleans area amateur championship, capping off an impressive 2012 season for him.

The LGA Mid-Am will be held Aug. 2-4 at The Bluffs in St. Francisville. The New Orleans area qualifier for that tournament will be July 9 at Lakewood Golf Club.

The Junior Amateur tournament is scheduled for July 10-12 at TPC Louisiana. Sam Burns of Shreveport won that title last year by nine strokes.

The Senior Amateur is scheduled for Aug. 15-17 at Bayou DeSiard Country Club in Monroe. Doug Farr of Monroe was the Senior Am champ in 2012.

Registration is now available for the first three events of the year, the Team Championship, the Net Amateur Championship (May 18-19 at The Bluffs) and the Amateur Championship.

?Our policy of sending $100 refunds (from the $200 entry fee) to individuals that do not proceed past qualifying round play in both the Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships will continue again this year,? said Logan Ray, LGA Director of Championship Operations. ?With the continuation of this policy and the superb slate of venues that we have on tap this year, we anticipate strong entry numbers for all of our events.?
