Nebraska mayor charged with theft, forgery

MILFORD, Neb. -- A mayor in southeast Nebraska has been charged with theft and forgery.

Online court records say 56-year-old Dean Bruha (BROO'-hah) faces eight counts of forgery that date back to 2009 and also is charged with identity theft. Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins says the allegations stem from Bruha's handling of an account for his brother, Robert. The loss is estimated at more than $60,000.

Bruha has bonded out of Seward County Jail. He and his attorney didn't immediately return calls Friday from The Associated Press.

Milford is a city of about 2,100 people. It sits 25 miles west of Lincoln in Seward County.
