STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. (AP) ? The FBI said Saturday it was offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of an 11-year-old northern New Hampshire girl who's been missing for five days.

The reward would also cover information leading to the arrest and prosecution of anyone responsible for the disappearance of fifth grader Celina Cass, Supervisory Special Agent Kieran Ramsey said at a news conference at the Stewartstown Community School.

"This reward should not be read into that we are transitioning in any way in this investigation," Ramsey said, adding that recent, successful cases of recovered missing children have resulted in vigilance from the public.

"We are still aggressively ? aggressively ? searching and hoping to bring Celina Cass home," he said.

Jane Young of the state attorney general's office said a community member was adding a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the discovery of Celina.

Celina was last seen Monday night at her home computer near Stewartstown, which is about a mile from the Canadian border. Numerous investigators have knocked on over 300 doors in the area and in neighboring Vermont and have searched fields, woods, ponds and a river.

"We have at least another 100 men available to come in and assist with this investigation when needed," Young said.

Young said later Saturday that dive teams would be brought in on Sunday, but she would not specify where they would search for the girl.

Police have said there is no indication Celina ran away or that someone took her. She lives in a three-story house with her mother and stepfather.

Lt. Robert Quinn of the New Hampshire State Police said he's been in contact with the heads of the state police in Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut. "They've shown an overwhelming support for us in this investigation," he said. "They will be sending additional resources here today."

He added: "We're going to do whatever it takes to locate this lost child."

Fliers featuring photos of the girl with a gap-toothed smile were put up throughout Stewartstown and neighboring communities. Residents have passed out purple and pink ribbons and held vigils.

Celina is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs about 95 pounds and has hazel eyes and waist-length brown hair.

Study: Mexico homicides rose 23 percent in 2010 (AP)

MEXICO CITY ? The number of homicides in Mexico rose by nearly a quarter in 2010 compared to the year before as the drug war intensified across the country, Mexican statisticians said Thursday.

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography recorded 24,374 homicides over the course of last year, a 23 percent increase from 19,803 in 2009. Last year's figure represented 22 killings for every 100,000 residents in the country.

Many but not all of the homicides were committed by organized crime organizations, the institute told The Associated Press.

Violence has risen in many Mexican regions as a result of drug trafficking and other organized criminal activity. President Felipe Calderon's office has said that more than 15,000 homicides in 2010 were attributed to organized crime.

According to the statistics institute, the U.S.-bordering state of Chihuahua saw the highest number of homicides with 4,747. Sinaloa, in northwestern Mexico, registered 2,505.

Sinaloa is the headquarters of the Sinaoloa cartel, while Chihuahua includes the violent border city of Ciudad Juarez. Those two states are among the most affected by drug violence, and together they accounted for 29 percent of Mexico's homicides.

The institute cautioned that its information was preliminary and said it awaited definitive results that are to be released in September.

In the northern state of Zacatecas, prosecutors said a town mayor was found shot to death lying alongside a slain local farm union official Thursday, a day after they were kidnapped by gunmen.

The dead mayor, Fortino Cortes Sandoval, headed the city government in Florencia de Benito Juarez. Last week, soldiers killed six suspected cartel hitmen during a firefight on a highway linking Sandoval's city with the Teulada municipality.

A dozen mayors have been killed in Mexico since last year, many of them victims of violence related to drug cartels.

Two metric tons of marijuana were seized by authorities in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) from the U.S. border at Arizona, along with weapons and a vehicle, the Defense Department reported. No further details were available.

And military officials reported the seizure of 22 tons of ethyl phenylacetate in the port of Manzanillo in Colima state that had been shipped from Shekou, China. The chemical is used in the production of methamphetamine.

?I dispute that he owes the child support that she?s claiming or anywhere near that amount,? he said. ?Joe Walsh hasn?t been a big-time wage-earner politician until recently ? he?s had no more problems with child support than any other average guy.?

Attorneys for both Walsh, a telegenic Tea Party hero known for his boisterous and uncompromising proclamations, and his ex-wife, Laura, a pharmaceutical attorney to whom he was married for 15 years but split in 2002, blame each other for stalling in the case, the Sun-Times said. The couple?s three children are now 23, 20 and 16 years old.

Citing court documents from December, the Sun-Times wrote that before his successful 2010 campaign Walsh told his ex-wife he could not make child support payments because he was either out of work or between jobs. Walsh loaned his campaign $35,000.

Laura Walsh also claims that while Walsh was failing to make child support payments, he took vacations to Mexico and Italy with a new girlfriend and traveled to Nicaragua with one of their children.

In one filing, Laura Walsh?s attorneys wrote: ?The apparent availability of large sums of money from either his employment, his family or his campaign has allowed him to live quite a comfortable lifestyle, while at the same time, due to his failure to pay child support or any of his share of the education costs or medical expenses, Laura and his children were denied any of these advantages.?

Court records also show Walsh objected to paying for a summer camp or a homecoming suit for his children, the Sun-Times wrote.

The child support issue is hardly Walsh?s only legal problem. He?s being sued by a former campaign manager and was accused of failing to file financial disclosure statements on time.

Walsh?s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.

Study Shows Rates and Risk Factors for BDD in Rhinoplasty Patients

Over a 16-month period, researchers distributed a BDD questionnaire and other surveys to 266 patients seeking rhinoplasty. Results suggested 33 percent of patients had moderate to severe symptoms of BDD. The figure rose to 43 percent for patients who were seeking rhinoplasty solely for aesthetic reasons (versus at least partly for functional reasons). By comparison, moderate to severe BDD symptoms were found in just two percent of patients undergoing nasal surgery for medical reasons.

Twenty percent of patients had a previous rhinoplasty, and were more likely to have high BDD symptom scores. Symptoms of BDD were also more frequent among patients with a history of psychiatric problems.

The severity of BDD symptoms was unrelated to an objective evaluation of the nasal shape; many patients who were highly concerned about their appearance had a normal-looking nose or only minor defects. Patients with higher BDD symptom scores had lower quality of life and more problems in several areas of daily functioning, including relationships and self-esteem.

Plastic surgeons routinely assess the motivations and mental health of patients seeking aesthetic surgery. However, few studies have examined the role of BDD?the only psychiatric diagnosis that directly considers body image concerns.

The study highlights the high rate of moderate to severe BDD symptoms in patients seeking aesthetic rhinoplasty, according to Dr. Picavet and colleagues. They conclude, ?Large-scale and long-term prospective outcome studies investigating the influence of BDD symptoms on outcomes are imperative, as they will help us in the establishment of guidelines concerning patient selection in aesthetic surgery.?

Romantic comedies posit the existence of true love?how silly! They portray New York in an unrealistic light, providing a tourist's version of the city. When Dylan and Jamie decide to try out a relationship with "no emotions ? just sex" and swear that "whatever happens, we stay friends," they convince themselves that they can pull off this trick because they're real people, not Hollywood figments.

There is virtually no such thing as true male-female friendship in the movies, only friends with benefits, or friends who wish they had benefits, or friends who are about to have benefits.

At this point, some readers are probably thinking?wait a minute, that's not a movie-truth, that's a truth-truth. As I discovered when I wrote about my 15-year-and-counting sexless relationship with my best friend, Jeff, many people deny that there is such a thing as platonic love. These people seem largely un-convinceable, but I'll note that in the course of researching that essay I heard from plenty of Slate readers who claim to have such relationships, and that a 2002 survey conducted by the magazine American Demographics found that more than 1 in 10 adults age 25 to 35 have a best friend?not just a pal or an acquaintance?of the opposite sex.

The classic Hollywood it-can't-happen thesis is that friendship necessarily bleeds into romance, like in When Harry Met Sally ? . As Harry puts it, men and women can never be friends because "the sex part always gets in the way," and the movie bears this out. A variation on the theme is the frustration narrative, in which one member of the friendship wants a romantic relationship and the other does not. Duckie loves Andie in Pretty in Pink, but Andie loves Blaine. Midge loves Scottie in Vertigo, but Scottie loves the mysterious Madeleine. Very occasionally a movie depicts a true friendship, but it's usually a sideline to a romance that's given minimal screen time. In Say Anything Lloyd has not one but three female friends, and there's no indication that he has feelings for any of them or that they have feelings for him?but the movie's not about that; it's about Lloyd's love for Diane.

The other major exception is relationships between gay men and straight women. These abound, both on TV and in the movies. Take My Best Friend's Wedding, in which Julianne realizes she's in love with best-bud Michael on the occasion of his engagement. The relationship between Julianne and Michael was never "just" a friendship, but we get the genuine article in Julianne's friendship with George?who's gay. This exception isn't much of one, though; conceding that sex won't happen if it's actually distasteful to one of the participants does nothing to chip away at the received idea that, if it's not distasteful, it's inevitable.

Like this spring's No Strings Attached and 2008's Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Friends With Benefits updates the When Harry Met Sally ? theory. In these films friendship leads inexorably to love, just like it always has, but it's not sex that gets in the way of friendship so much as love that gets in the way of sex. "We tried to fuck and, instead, we wound up making love," says Zack in Zack and Miri. "I want my best friend back, because I'm in love with her," says Dylan, after a fight makes him realize that there was more to the relationship than physicality.

Friends With Benefits seems awfully proud of its edginess. There's a lot of sex (fun sex, not weepy sex), and lots of talk about sex. But it would be a far, far less conventional movie if, instead of jumping into bed and then falling in love, Dylan and Jamie never got into it at all.

"Troubled" was the adjective most commonly used to describe Amy Winehouse, the dynamic British belter who rose to international prominence thanks to her defiant 2006 single "Rehab" and the near-constant coverage of her sundry of personal problems (drug addiction, public punch-ups, onstage meltdowns, to name just a few). But in light of Winehouse's death on Saturday (July 23), it's clear that "troubled" doesn't quite fit; perhaps "haunted" is a better choice.

Because Winehouse was vexed in ways that were beyond troublesome; she was pursued by specters in life — addiction, love, even the paparazzi, against whom she obtained an anti-harassment injunction in 2009. And in death — her body was discovered Saturday in her home in London, under conditions which police are calling "unexplained" — it appears those specters finally caught up with her.

There was a darkness to Winehouse, a quality that went beyond the tabloid pages or her low-cut dresses or her frequent binges on drugs and alcohol. It was most apparent in her voice, smoky and smoldering and, at times, savage, but always imperceptibly pained too, just like Billie Holiday or Janis Joplin or even Kurt Cobain. It's no wonder then that like those talents, she found solace — and, ultimately, escape — in controlled substances. Anything to numb the pain.

It remains to be seen whether Winehouse's struggles will come to define her life; at minimum, they'll forever be mentioned whenever folks talk about her legacy. Unlike other members of the so-called "27 Club" (of which she is now, sadly, a member), her recordings were relatively few — just two full-length albums and a handful of guest appearances — but it is perhaps a testament to their power that she's already being mentioned in the same breath as Joplin or Cobain. Go beyond the eerily prescient sentiments of "Rehab," to the slow-burning transcendence of "You Know I'm No Good," "Back To Black" or "Tears Dry on Their Own," and you'll discover that Winehouse was a true artist ... and a truly pained one.

And, as is the case with all the true greats, Winehouse became an icon, almost overnight. Her tattooed arms and towering beehive made her an instant antidote to the Britneys and Christinas that had for too long dominated the pop-music landscape, and her constant run-ins and flare-ups (and lack of concern for her public image) made her a true rebel in every sense of the word. She seemingly was not of this era, a throwback to a time both more glamorous and gritty than we could possibly remember. And because of that, no matter where she went or what she did, we couldn't take our eyes off her.

Of course, it didn't hurt matters that Back to Black sold like gangbusters, and her success paved the way for several retro-leaning stars, including Lily Allen, Duffy and, most notably, Adele, the Brit who currently dominates both sides of the Atlantic. And, in some ways, maybe that will be her endearing legacy: She was the one who changed it all, and nearly six years after the release of her breakout album, we're still feeling the effects of that change.

And yet, despite all of that, in the years following Back to Black's release, Winehouse was never truly able to escape her ghosts. Her trips to rehab facilities were nearly as numerous as her arrests, and her live performances became increasingly erratic. In some ways, it seemed like she knew she'd never follow-up that album's success, and maybe she didn't want to. And perhaps it's fitting that she never will.

And, fittingly, in death, Winehouse has now cemented her status alongside all of the other sublimely talented, supremely pained stars gone too early. Carrying a weariness beyond her years, hers was a story that is sadly repeated all too often in music and one that, more often than not, usually ends the same way.

When I was told that I could take part in Summer Lovin? month, there was no doubt about what my guest post would be about. Any reader will be able to relate to me when I point out that there are books that you read in the cold winter and feel like you should be sat in the garden in summer reading, or books that just come across as the perfect beach reads. So in this post I shall just ramble about the books that I?ve read and will recommend for a summer read!

During the summer when I was thirteen, I went through a period where I was at my local library every day and there was one book there that I would read at least once a week. That book was Shug by Jenny Han. A few months ago I took Shug out of the library again and despite the fact that it was actually the middle of winter here, I was taken back to that summer, sat on the grass outside the library with an ice-cream and some ice cold Sprite.

I?m yet to read Jenny Han?s Summer series, but I am dying to read it, I remember how Han?s writing made me feel, how I could relate to twelve year old Shug when I was thirteen and I can?t wait to read the Summer series, aimed for older readers, now that I am eighteen.

But what other books would I recommend this summer?

Skuse is the kind of writer who can make a totally unbelievable story seem real.?Rockaholic?is a fun story which, when you reflect on it, actually has some pretty serious undertones. Don?t let that put you off though, the story, about a teenager who inadvertently kidnaps her favourite rock star, is cute, exciting and extremely funny.

? ? ?Jessie Hearts NYC by Keris Stainton

This absolutely adorable story of fate is one of my most charming reads of 2011. The story is short and simple, the writing is gorgeous and this book is filled with moments that make you laugh, cry and gasp (sometimes all at once). This is the perfect read for sitting in the garden on a hot Summer day.

? ? ??Anything by Sarah Dessen (Though my personal favourite is This Lullaby)

There is something about Dessen?s writing that any teenage girl can relate to, but that also attracts older readers. Dessen has a way of telling bittersweet stories of heartbreak without making them too sad. I love all of her books, but This Lullaby is a favourite read of mine (and one that I must reread every summer!)

But it?s not just the contemporary reads! While most paranormal/fantasy books are quite dark and serious, not usual beach reading material, some of them are just right for a hot summer day!

? ? ??Forgive my Fins by Tera Lynn Childs and Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs

Who doesn?t love mermaids? Forgive my Fins is a cute romantic read and Tempest Rising is a little more serious, but still fitting for a beach read. For some reason, mermaids seem like the absolute perfect read for the beach. I don?t know about everyone else, but they make me want to grow gills and fins and find an underwater world myself!

So those are my five summer recommendations for you! I hope you try them and love them!
