Migraine, Cluster, or Tension Headaches: The Different Types of ...

So, your head hurts. What do you do?

When it comes to headache treatment, it all depends on what type of headache you have to begin with. Although some headache types are vastly different?migraine is the only type of headache accompanied by the sensory symptoms known as aura, for example?others share common symptoms and triggers and are frequently misdiagnosed.

At least at home. Often, a patient comes in claiming sinus headache, without any of the congestion, fever or other symptoms of a true infection, says Robert Cowan, M.D., professor of neurology and director of the headache program at Stanford University. Most likely, it's actually a migraine, he says, and "all the antibiotics in the world aren't going to help it."

The most common type of headache is tension-type, says Cowan, which can be brought on by stress, anxiety, alcohol, or eye strain as well as other triggers. Cluster headaches and medication overuse headaches (formerly known as rebound headaches) are also relatively common. Sinus headaches are much rarer, he says, but not as rare as more troubling syndromes Cowan has treated, including SUNCT headaches, in which patients experience brief stabbing pains as many as hundreds of times a day that require IV medication to treat.

Of course, your head might hurt because of direct trauma, such as a car accident or sports injury, says Dawn C. Buse, Ph.D., associate professor of neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and the director of behavioral medicine at Montefiore Headache Center. Others experience what are known as exertion headaches, she says, which can occur after coughing, exercise, or even sex.

While a headache specialist may be your best bet at an accurate diagnosis, knowing the answers to a few key questions can help you and your doctor arrive at the right treatment plan.

"It's really helpful to have your headache history organized," says Cowan. Knowing how long your headaches last, how severe they are, how frequent they are, and what triggers them can paint a picture for your doctor when you're not currently experiencing pain. "You have to pay attention to your life," he says, just like a person with asthma has to pay attention to the weather when exercising outside.

Below are some of the crucial questions you should keep track of when it comes to your headaches?and a basic picture of what the answers might mean.

Murphy's law at work in India

Indian flagWith the Reserve Bank of India easing monetary policy, it was expected gross domestic product growth would revive, although slowly, from the five per cent levels of last year, notes Varun Goel

Murphy?s law states: ?Anything that can go wrong will go wrong?.

This seems especially true in the context of Indian economy and Indian equity markets in the past year.

Last year this time, India was grappling with an imminent sovereign downgrade, with an uncontrolled fiscal deficit, policy paralysis of the highest order with no economic reforms for eight long years and a weakening rupee.

With Chidambaram coming back to the finance ministry, measures were announced to tackle the fiscal situation.

We saw government spending being curtailed, foreign direct investment allowed in several sectors like retail and aviation, and a more benign monetary policy.

Several policy measures were undertaken to cap fiscal deficit.

The fuel price deregulation announced in January is probably the most significant reform measure in the last five years and will have significant positive long-term impact on the economy.

This combined with severe expenditure curtailment, led to a better than expected fiscal deficit number for FY13.

With the Reserve Bank of India easing monetary policy, it was expected gross domestic product growth would revive, although slowly, from the five per cent levels of last year.

And just when things seemed to be looking up, we had an eight per cent fall in rupee value through the month of May and June which changed the overall macro picture.

India is not alone in the currency carnage which was triggered, partly by the US Federal Reserve?s comments on tapering on Quantitative Easing.

However, India is most vulnerable due to the high deficit levels on both fiscal and current account.

RBI has been forced to intervene and carry out monetary tightening to defend the rupee.

These monetary policy measures are going to slow down economic activity further and a recovery is now pushed back into 2014.

We are now expecting gross domestic product growth of around five per cent for the financial year.

Equity markets have reacted with banking and automobile stocks taking a big hit.

However, the broader market has been resilient, with the Sensex within five per cent of its all-time high.

We believe all possible negatives which could happen have played out.

One can add a fractured electoral outcome as another potential negative.

However, no one is expecting a very decisive mandate from elections next year, so expectations are already low.

There is not much that can go wrong from here. We have GDP growth, currency, current account deficit all at a decadal low.

Things can only look up.

Growth should get a boost once these temporary measures by RBI are withdrawn.

We see more actions on the import side, which will also help stabilise the rupee.

It?s difficult to see the sunshine when dark clouds gather.

A good monsoon, commodity price correction, a strong macroeconomic recovery in the US and a stable euro area are significant positives for equity markets this year.

We expect Indian companies to deliver a 10 per cent earnings growth this financial year and remain positive on equity markets, with a potential 15 per cent upside from these levels by the end of the year.

We expect a few industries to outperform dusting these times of the dark clouds.

We expect the pharma, information technology, automotive and private sector banks space to outperform the market in the next two quarters.

Obama proposes 'grand bargain' for jobs

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) ? President Barack Obama, seeking to break Washington's fiscal stalemate, is proposing cutting corporate tax rates in exchange for more spending on jobs programs. But his offer was immediately panned by congressional Republicans, casting doubts about its prospects.

The White House painted the new offer as a way for Washington to create jobs and generate short-term economic growth even as hopes for a grand deficit reduction deal fade. Obama was to announce his proposals Tuesday during a trip to an Amazon.com distribution center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

"We should be looking for other avenues of progress, other 'grand bargains' that can be for middle class job growth," White House economist Gene Sperling said.

The president has previously insisted such business tax reform be coupled with an individual tax overhaul. His new offer drops that demand and calls only for lowering the corporate rate from 35 percent to 28 percent, with an even lower effective tax rate of 25 percent for manufacturers.

Obama wants those rate changes to come in exchange for significant spending on some sort of job creation program, such as manufacturing, infrastructure or community colleges.

Congressional Republicans have also long insisted on tying corporate and individual tax reform so that small business owners who use the individual tax code would be offered cuts along with large corporations.

"You can't do that," said Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., of splitting corporate tax reform from individual rates. "That'll never fly."

"We've heard that song before," Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said. "Everything should be negotiated, but certainly I'm not in support of it."

The disagreement was even deeper from House Republican leadership, with Speaker John Boehner's office accusing the White House of blindsiding lawmakers with the proposal. The White House said later that senior officials had tried to brief Boehner's staff about the offer on Tuesday, but their phone calls were not returned until the next morning, after the proposal was detailed in media reports.

Signaling that the White House may not be in the mood to compromise further, Obama communications director Jennifer Palmieri said the new "bargain" the president is proposing, "isn't supposed to be for the Republicans. It's supposed to be a bargain for the middle class."

Senior administration officials described the corporate tax proposal as the first new economic idea Obama plans to offer in the coming months, with budget deadlines looming in the fall. Administration officials wouldn't put a price tag on the proposal or say how much would be a "significant" investment in jobs since the dollar figures would be part of negotiations with Congress. But in an example from this year's State of the Union address, Obama proposed $50 billion to put Americans to work repairing roads and bridges and other construction jobs.

The officials said money to pay for the jobs creation would come from a one-time revenue boost from measures such as changing depreciation rules or having a one-time fee on earnings held overseas.

Obama planned to make his remarks from an Amazon fulfillment center in Chattanooga, one of more than a dozen warehouses operated by the world's largest online retailer, which announced Monday that it would increase hiring. The company said it would add 7,000 new jobs, including 5,000 more at U.S. distribution centers that currently employ about 20,000 workers who pack and ship customer orders. Amazon.com Inc. has been spending heavily on order fulfillment to help its business grow.

Obama planned to tour the packing floor of the Chattanooga warehouse, which opened in September 2011. It is one of the company's largest and newest facilities, with more than 1 million square feet ? the size of more than 28 football fields full of merchandise.

The plant was the source of tax controversy when it opened; Amazon originally was granted an indefinite waiver on collecting sales tax in a deal to bring two distribution centers to Tennessee. The state's retailers were outraged that they were put at a competitive disadvantage, and Amazon has agreed to start collecting Tennessee sales tax next year.

The White House said Obama wasn't visiting Amazon because of the company's position on taxes, but because it's an example of a successful American business growing and creating more jobs.

. The U.S. has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, but many businesses avoid the full cost by taking advantage of deductions, credits and exemptions that Obama wants to eliminate.

Obama wants to do away with corporate tax benefits like oil and natural gas industry subsidies, special breaks for the purchase of private jets and certain corporate tax shelters. He also wants to impose a minimum tax on foreign earnings, a move opposed by multinational corporations and perhaps the most contentious provision in the president's plan.

When Obama unveiled the corporate tax plan last year, congressional Republicans called for even deeper cuts for the business world. His campaign rival, Mitt Romney, wanted a 25 percent corporate tax rate.

Wadah Khanfar Blasts Egyptian Military, Calls Out U.S. 'Hypocrisy,' Warns Of 'Collapse Of The Entire Region' (VIDEO)

Former Director General of Al Jazeera Wadah Khanfar joined me Monday for a wide-ranging conversation on the ongoing violence in Egypt, slamming the military's "horrific" crackdown on civilians and accusing the United States of hypocrisy, predicting both civil war in Egypt and the "collapse of the entire region" if there is no real U.S. intervention against military violence there.

Khanfar, whose HuffPost blog post last week focused on the Egyptian military's role in dragging the country closer to a civil war, said the unprecedented amount of violence the military has carried out against the people in recent days marks "a beginning of a new history where people will give up on democracy and will turn to defend themselves through violence."

Throughout the interview, Khanfar repeatedly used the word "coup," calling the recent images of civilians harmed by military "horrific" and saying that "the Arab world did not sleep [two nights ago] watching live the shooting and killing by the military of people who were not armed."

Khanfar, co-founder of the Sharq Forum and one of the most widely-respected journalists in the Arab world, predicted the situation in Egypt will have major consequences in an already volatile region.

"If this coup continues in Egypt, then we are not only in front of a dictatorship, a military dictatorship, but we are facing the collapse of the entire region," he said. "No government, no international power will be able to predict or even imagine what kind of consequences we are going to see in this region."

Khanfar said that Egyptian minister of defense Lt. General Abdul Fatah al-Sisi reminded him of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi by invoking the Bush administration's favorite phrase to frame Egyptian civilians as terrorist and thus justify violence against them.

"The [phrase] 'War on Terrorism' became very useful for our dictators," Khanfar said. "Today Sisi is imitating Muammar Gaddafi, who used the war on terrorism to put down people and put them in jail."

Ultimately, Khanfar blames the United States government for "putting security above freedom" and failing to stand up to restore democracy in Egypt. He said that Egyptian people see the US as unwilling to "call things as they are" and will ultimately hold America accountable if the violence persists.

"If the Americans, at this stage, do not take a bold stance against this coup and demand immediate restoration of the democratic process, I do believe the people in this region will put this burden of the collapse of democracy on American shoulders as well," he said. "If the Americans do not call this a coup, it will be seen as hypocrisy and another act to suppress the demands of the public in this part of the world."

NBA High-5: Is Greg Oden really a piece of a three-peat puzzle for Miami?

The five most interesting stories, rumors and notes in the NBA:

1. The final piece? It might not quite be a feeding frenzy, but there's certainly a buzz building around the recruitment of a free agent center we in Portland are well familiar with -- Greg Oden.

Oden, the former Blazers' No. 1 pick, worked out for several teams in Indianapolis last week, and according to ESPN's Marc Stein, witnesses said Oden looked "lean" and was "moving well."

And there was this from Heat scout Tim Hardaway, who tells FoxSports' Chris Tomasson: "If we get Greg Oden, I think we will win a third (straight) title."

As it always seems to be with Oden, any glimmer of decent health creates hype. Two years ago, then-Blazers GM Rich Cho was talking about making Oden the team's off-season priority. That was before Oden had his third microfracture surgery, on Feb. 20, 2012.

A year and a half after that procedure, teams are being drawn in by Oden, hoping they might be getting a steal for what figures to be a small contract.

Multiple reports say New Orleans, San Antonio, Dallas, Sacramento, Atlanta and Miami are interested in Oden, although the Mavericks added free agent center Samuel Dalembert and re-signed Bernard James.

The Heat seem particularly committed to Oden, having already passed on the chance to add another former Blazers center, Marcus Camby, who signed a one-year, veteran's minimum deal with Houston. Camby played 19 games for the Rockets in 2012 after they got him from the Blazers in a trade deadline deal.

The Heat, after amnestying Mike Miller, might need some sort of boost to help their three-peat chances, with the Eastern Conference seemingly getting tougher. The Nets have gathered a star-studded roster, and Indiana figures to be better with Danny Granger back and with newly-acquired Luis Scola, whom the Pacers received in a deal with Phoenix.

But is Greg Oden really the answer to keeping up with the up-and-comers? His representatives are trying to downplay the kind of impact Oden could have.

Oden has two agents who have been speaking for him, and one, Mike Conley Sr., tells the Sporting News' Sean Deveney, "I expect him to come back and be someone who in short periods of time can dominate a game. Just let him build up and get back to himself. I think it would be a little unfair to put him out there and give him 40 minutes."

Oden's other representative, Bill Duffy, tells NBA.com's Steve Aschburner: "We?ve looked at all the scenarios. There might be less pressure if he tries this with a team that?s rebuilding. Then again, the quality of the medical staff will matter. Maybe a winning team has chemistry that?s good or his role would be clearly defined."

As usual, there's not a lot to go on with Oden. One decent workout hardly means he's ready to go, especially when expectations had to be pretty low. The most telling words ? might have been a fake report in The Onion with this headline:

Greg Oden Suppresses Severe Shooting Pain All Over Body During Meeting With Heat
It's funny, but in many ways it really isn't.

2. Shooter's chance: One team making some nice off-season improvements is Memphis. The Grizzlies' outside shooting deficiency was exposed by San Antonio in the Western Conference Finals.

The Grizzlies agreed to terms with Miller, who previously played six seasons for them and should help their three-point shooting, provided he can stay healthy. The deal was reported last week, but has not been officially announced.

One reason could be because that the Grizzlies are trying to finesse another acquisition first. ESPN's Marc Stein reports that Memphis is in the mix for free agent point guard Mo Williams, who has been a prolific three-point shooter, particularly in his Cleveland years.

Other reports have Miami and San Antonio also interested in Williams, who played for Utah last season.

3. Inside move: The other conference final loser, Indiana, appears to have made a serious upgrade in obtaining Scola.

The Pacers sent Miles Plumlee, Gerald Green and a 2014 first-round draft pick to Phoenix to get Scola. They were reportedly high on Plumlee, but apparently feel they are close enough to a championship that he was worth sacrificing to get Scola.

Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz summed it up this way: "They?re going for it. Not two years from now. Not eventually. Now."

The Pacers were a slow-paced, physical team, and the style took Miami to seven games in the conference finals. By getting Scola, they get more of what they already have -- a lot of post and mid-range baskets.

They also signed forward Chris Copeland to a two-year, $6 million deal. Copeland shot 42.1 percent on three-pointers for the Knicks last season, although any shooter's numbers will be slightly inflated playing for New York, which led the league in attempts. It's also hard to know where his playing time will come from, with Paul George and Danny Granger already in the lineup.

Indiana added C.J. Watson as George Hill's backup point guard, with the hope that he'll be a upgrade from D.J. Augustin.

Does it all add up to an Eastern Conference title??

4. Still vacant: More than three months have passed since Doug Collins stepped down as 76ers coach, and they still have not hired his replacement.

Philadelphia legend Charles Barkley, breaking from his norm of keeping his opinions to himself -- or am I thinking of Matt Barkley? -- unloaded on the team in a TV interview.

"I think that's one of the silliest things that I've seen in sports in a long time," Barkley told Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. "I'm in Philly during the summer as you know, and I'm watching and reading every day -- to not have a coach under contract by now, I think that's a joke. I don't know what they're waiting on."

Last week, Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the 76ers received permission to interview Blazers assistant coach David Vanterpool.

Supposedly, incumbent assistant coach Michael Curry and Spurs assistant Brett Brown are the favorites, but they've been the favorites for weeks.

Public ridicule is no reason to rush hiring a coach, but a lot of public ridicule might be, and the 76ers are taking that right now.

5. Setting the bar: Last week at the USA Basketball mini-camp, Blazers point guard Damian Lillard told us about how he has developed a friendship with Wizards point guard John Wall, with whom he traveled to China on a promotional tour for Adidas.

That's fitting as Wall could play a role in Lillard's future financial well-being.

Multiple reports says the Wizards are preparing a five-year, $80 million extension offer to Wall, who could become a restricted free agent next summer if Washington doesn't extend him by Oct. 31. As Mike Prada of SB Nation writes, giving Wall a max deal is a controversial topic in Washington.

Wall is a spectacular athlete, but has still not shown he has developed a consistent three-point shot, shooting a career 24.3 percent behind the arc.

Wall could end up making a lot more money than Stephen Curry (who is on a four-year, $44 million deal) and Jrue Holiday (four years, $41 million), and in the process could set the bar for future extensions for other young point guards, notably Cleveland's Kyrie Irving and Lillard.

Extension talk for Irving will come up in 2014. Then Lillard comes up in 2015 -- at the same time the contracts of LaMarcus Aldridge and Wesley Matthews are set to expire.

Note: The NBA High-5 will return later this week.

Estimate of French diamond heist raised to $136M

PARIS (AP) ? A lone man wearing gloves, a cap, and a scarf to mask his face sneaked into a diamond show in a luxury Cannes hotel and made off with some $136 million of loot, a French state prosecutor said Monday ? more than twice the initial estimated take from the weekend hold-up.

Police had previously said Sunday's theft at the Carlton Intercontinental Hotel had netted ?40 million ($53 million) worth of treasure ? even at that level, one of biggest jewelry heists in recent years. Reached by The Associated Press, Philippe Vique, an assistant prosecutor in the Riviera town of Grasse, said the Dubai-based organizer of the diamond show had since raised the value based on a more complete inventory.

Describing a canny ? if quick and logistically simple ? break-in, Vique said the suspect broke in through French doors at the hotel that open out onto Cannes' famed Croisette, held up the participants of the show with a handgun, then fled on foot. The hold-up itself took place in the space of about a minute, and with three private security guards, two vendors and a manager of the sale-exhibit on hand, he said.

No customers were present at the time.

"He took a bag containing a briefcase and a small box, and then fled by another French door on the inside," Vique said, adding there was not getaway vehicle. "He left on foot ... it was very fast."

Jonathan Sazonoff, U.S. editor for the Museum Security Network website and an authority on high-value crime, told the AP on Sunday that police were likely to probe whether the heist was linked to recent jail escapes by alleged members of the Pink Panther jewel thief gang.

Vique said authorities were pursuing all possible leads and reviewing surveillance video footage ? notably from cameras put in place by Cannes municipal authorities. But he said there was no indication so far that the suspect had links to any organized crime group.

Cambodian opposition rejects poll results, demands inquiry

By Prak Chan Thul

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodia's main opposition party on Monday rejected election results given by the government, which said long-serving Prime Minister Hun Sen's party had won, and called for an inquiry into what it called massive manipulation of electoral rolls.

The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), whose campaign was given a boost by the return from exile of leader Sam Rainsy, said it wanted an investigation committee set up with representatives from the political parties, the United Nations, the election authority and non-governmental organizations.

"There were 1.2 million to 1.3 million people whose names were missing and could not vote. They deleted our rights to vote, how could we recognize this election?" Sam Rainsy told a news conference.

"There were ghost names, names only on paper, over a million people that may been turned into votes. We cannot accept this result," he said.

The CNRP said the committee should report back by August 31.

On Sunday, the government said Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party (CPP) had won 68 seats in the 123-seat parliament to the CNRP's 55. Even that would have been a huge setback for the authoritarian leader, who has been prime minister for 28 years.

The CPP, backed by a compliant Cambodian media and with superior resources, had been confident of victory.

Analysts, however, had predicted a reduction in its majority after the merger of two main opposition parties, as well as the return of Sam Rainsy.

The CPP had 90 seats in the outgoing parliament and the parties that united to form the CNRP had 29, with minor parties holding the remaining four.

Sam Rainsy called for calm after the government gave the results late on Sunday and thanked the Cambodian people for "their dignified participation in this election".

He appealed to his youthful supporters not to cause trouble. "We call for peace and reconciliation," he said.

Voting on Sunday, like the campaign itself, was for the most part peaceful, although a crowd angered by alleged irregularities set fire to two police cars outside a polling station in the capital, Phnom Penh.

The United Nations organized an election in 1993 that put Cambodia on a rocky path towards stability after decades of turmoil that included the 1975-79 "Killing Fields" rule of the communist Khmer Rouge.

Under Hun Sen, a former junior commander in the Khmer Rouge who broke away during their rule, Cambodia has been transformed into one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing economies, helped by garment exports plus aid money and investment from China.

But economic growth has been accompanied by a rise in social tension over poor factory conditions and rural land rights in a country of 14 million people where a third of the people live on less than 65 U.S. cents a day.

Tim Cook May Not Know Why, But Samsung Is Winning in China

Slashdot writes, An anonymous reader writes with this interesting snippet about the state of mobile tech in China: "Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook believes that 'over the arc of time' China is a huge opportunity for his pathbreaking company. But time looks to be on the side of rival Samsung Electronics, which has been around far longer and penetrated much deeper into the world's most populous country. Apple this week said its revenue in Greater China, which also includes Hong Kong and Taiwan, slumped 43 per cent to $4.65 billion from the previous quarter. That was also 14 per cent lower from the year-ago?

Should Donald Trump's Talk About Running For President in 2016 Be Taken Seriously?

Business mogul Donald Trump is once again considering a run for president, he told National Review. Trump talked about possibly throwing his hat into the ring for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, but ultimately announced in the spring of 2011 that he would not run.

Trump, who has made his fortune in real estate and investing, is also host of the television reality show "The Apprentice." He said he was hesitant to abandon his business commitments in the last election, but now feels confident his family could manage them in his absence.

"It's very difficult for me to make a commitment, with 'The Apprentice'?and so many things," Trump said. "It's harder for me than some politician who says, 'I guess I'll run.' So that's the thing I have to keep looking at. I want to watch what happens with the 2014 elections, and then make a final decision after those elections."

[See a collection of political cartoons on the Republican Party.]

In 2016, Trump?would be a longshot for the nomination. He was briefly at the top of the pool in the Republican primary in 2011, once polling ahead of eventual nominee Mitt Romney, but he has not had a significant role in the party's politics since the election. Many considered 2011 a publicity stunt for his television show, rather than a legitimate campaign.

The businessman said he has spent $1 million exploring how he could win the Republican nomination, and will travel to Iowa in August to speak at an evangelical event. Those considering a presidential bid often test the waters in that state, one of the first to hold its primary elections. Trump said presidential elections shouldn't be popularity contests, but said he has a large base of people fed up with the direction the country is going:

I have a large following of people who are tired of seeing this country ripped off, and taken advantage of [by] everyone who does business with us. We used to be the smart one of the block, and now we're the dummies on the block. They want to see me, and I want to see them.

Trump has no experience in politics, but is an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, leading the "birther" movement questioning whether or not the president was born in the United States. Amazon hit by surprise loss last quarter, despite 22 percent rise in sales

Amazon reports surprise loss in in Q2 2013, despite a 22 percent rise in sales

The retail game is all about scraping a living out of tiny margins, and nowhere is that more evident than in Amazon's latest financial report. The company managed to grow revenue by 22 percent year-over-year between April and June, to $15.7 billion, and yet it confounded analysts' predictions by making a loss of $7 million, versus a $7 million profit in the same quarter last year. Then again, this knock has been attributed to the fact that Amazon is pushing to expand beyond the retail game, by investing heavily in its Kindle business, digital downloads and streaming products, as well as in building a bigger presence in China. This has been the strategy for a while, of course, and it's not the first time the company has been pushed into the red as a result. But Jeff Bezos says that Amazon's top ten bestselling products last quarter were all either Kindles, accessories for Kindles, or digital content for Kindles, which suggests the transformation is steadily having an impact, even if it's proving expensive.

Gulf of Mexico natural gas well stops flowing gas and fire is subsiding

The leaking natural gas well in the Gulf of Mexico has stopped flowing, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed on Thursday morning. The fire has decreased to a small flame fueled by residual gas at the top of the well, the agencies reported.

The well 55 miles offshore Louisiana has bridged over, they stated, based in part on flights over the site on Thursday morning. Bridging occurs when small pieces of sediment and sand flow into the well's path and restrict it, ultimately stopping the flow.

BSEE and Coast Guard officials state that they will continue overseeing response efforts until the incident has come to a complete and safe resolution that includes securing the well.

The well suffered a blowout about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday and the rig caught fire about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday when the leaking natural gas ignited, according to BSEE and Coast Guard accounts.

No one was on board at the time of the ignition and no one was injured, according to BSEE. The rig is southwest of Grand Isle.

During BSEE and Coast Guard officials flyover of the site on Wednesday morning, they had not seen a sheen on the water surface. BSEE inspectors had reported a sheen a mile long by 50 feet wide during a flyover Tuesday.

As the rig fire had continued on Wednesday, beams supporting the derrick and rig floor? folded and collapsed over the rig structure, BSEE stated.

BSEE officials said the source of the blowout and the ignition remain unknown.

All 44 people on the rig -- which BSEE corrected late Tuesday from the earlier reports of 47 people on the rig -- were safely evacuated, authorities said. No injuries were reported in the incident on the Hercules No. 265 rig.

The rig was in 154 feet of water and the well itself was reported as about 8,000-feet deep, according to Jim Noe, an executive vice president with rig owner Hercules Offshore.

The rig is owned by Hercules Offshore, based in Houston, and operated by Houston-based Walter Oil & Gas Corp.

Eileen Angelico, a BSEE spokeswoman, said on Wednesday afternoon that the well had a blowout preventer, but "no determinations have been made as to whether the blowout preventer was activated or functioned properly."

"That will be part of BSEE's comprehensive investigation into the cause of the loss of well control," Angelico said.

Noe said that, "once things settle, we will certainly start looking at potential causes, including the BOP," referencing that blowout preventer.

Olbermann says he's all about sports now

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) ? Keith Olbermann says he isn't planning to talk politics on his new late-night sports show, although he will make an exception for a certain New York mayoral candidate.

Asked about Anthony Weiner's new sexting scandal and the candidate's online alias "Carlos Danger," Olbermann joked that Weiner "stole a great fake hotel sign-in name" that he would have liked to use.

He told the Television Critics Association summer meeting on Wednesday, "I guarantee you Carlos Danger will wind up in the first show."

Olbermann's self-titled show originates in New York and debuts Aug. 26 on ESPN2. It will focus on the day's sports topics through a mix of commentary, interviews, contributors, panel discussions and highlights.

Olbermann says there's no content clause in his contract that would prevent him from talking politics, but he says that's not what the show is about.

NEW ORLEANS ? Helen Crofts of Simon Fraser, Erin Alewine of Central Missouri, Danielle Williams of Johnson C. Smith and Mallory Sanner of Seton Hill have been named the Scholar Athletes of the Year in Division II for the 2013 women?s track & field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the association announced Wednesday.

PDF Release

These four women achieved the greatest combination of academic achievement and athletic accomplishment during the 2013 indoor and outdoor seasons of the 384 DII women who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. The full list of All-Academic individuals can be found below.

Crofts, a senior biomedical physiology major with a 3.94 cumulative grade point average, is the indoor track Scholar Athlete of the Year. A native of West Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada), Crofts won the women?s 800 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in an indoor season-best 2:05.96 with only one runner within four seconds of her.

A junior dietetics major with a 3.55 cumulative GPA, Alewine is the indoor field Scholar Athlete of the Year. The Jefferson City, Mo., native claimed the NCAA DII indoor pentathlon title by more than 100 points with a score of 3925. She is the second CMU student-athlete to earn indoor field Scholar Athlete of the Year honors, joining Jenna Schmidt from 2009.

Williams, a junior business management major with a cumulative 3.85 GPA, has earned the outdoor track Scholar Athlete of the Year award. The native of St. Andrew, Jamaica, took home individual crowns at both 100 and 200 meters from the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and finished runner-up in the 100 hurdles. Her blazing 22.62 (-0.7m/s) at 200 meters set a new Division II record, and her winning 11.24 (-0.7m/s) was among the fastest in Division history.

Carrying a 3.77 cumulative GPA as a sophomore elementary education major with a specialization in special education, Sanner is the outdoor field Scholar Athlete of the Year. The Uniontown, Pa., native defeated the defending champion to win the javelin title with a mark of 162-2 (49.43m) ? a mark that places her in the top 10 all-time in Division history.

Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest in individual events at the most recent NCAA Championships. Those who earn multiple individual championship titles rank higher in the tie-breaking process, and cumulative GPA is weighed as the final tiebreaker to establish a winner. Separate awards are given to track athletes and field athletes for the indoor and outdoor seasons, resulting in four categories.

Grand Valley State Tops All-Academic Individuals List with 21 Honorees; PSAC is the Top Conference

Including to the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 384 women from 92 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined efforts in competition and in the classroom. Grand Valley State is the best-represented school with 21 women who earned All-Academic honors, and is the only team with 20 or more recipients. Winona State was next with 14, while Shippensburg and Adams State are both represented by 11 honorees. West Texas A&M and Findlay both have 10 apiece.

The PSAC led all leagues with 59 total selections. The GLIAC and NSIC tied for the second-most with 54, followed closely by the MIAA with 51.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either indoor or outdoor seasons.

The full list of All-Academic selections is provided below, arranged alphabetically by team name.
