Viral videos turn into quick cash for lucky YouTube users (Yahoo! News)

Viral videos. We've all seen them. We've watched our social network feeds become overrun with whatever the hot video of the moment is, and we've tallied our viewings amongst the hundreds of millions of hits that a select few YouTube videos managed to rake in. But rarely do we consider how a minute-long video clip can turn into cold, hard cash.

One such video ? Charlie Bit My Finger ? was shot on a whim by the father of two small children. An innocent and playful 56 seconds shot with a low-quality camera has turned into nearly 400 million views on YouTube and a considerable paycheck for the unassuming dad. Since its debut in 2007, the short clip has netted approximately $190,000 via the YouTube partner program, which provides advertising spots for creators of uber-popular videos.

Perhaps the best part of viral video success is the fact that the cash just keeps rolling in. New eyes grace the adorable Charlie clip every day, in addition to the untold number of repeat viewings from YouTubers who just can't get enough. In order to be part of the website's Partner program, you need to be a bona fide YouTube big shot, able to produce regular content that gets thousands of views almost instantly. However, Charlie's dad has shown that even a single 56-second video can be enough to rocket you to the top of the viral video ranks.
