Arts and media is a controversial topic for both areas, considering the influence of the latter on culture in general and of course on all means of artistic expression.
Media?s influence on society
The media influence on political, social and cultural life is becoming more pronounced, being visible in all areas. In the last 50 years society has evolved considerably, technology too, and if at first newspapers were the symbol of this area, in time not only that the number of newspapers increased, but also the development of technology has made the information to be spread at a larger rate than the radio, television and internet.
It goes without saying that we live in a society with information as its basis; a society thirsty for information and communication. Even the most mundane activities that we have throughout the day are closely related to the media, from tasks at the work place, to education, health, how we spend our free time and even personal life ? all of which are strongly influenced by the media. If you wonder how is this possible, we offer the following example: the average person wakes up in the early hours of the morning and accompanied by a cup of coffee enjoys the last news in the favorite newspapers either the most serious, or in tabloids or read the news on the Internet, without neglecting the personal email. People who work in offices spend most of the time, according to numerous research, seeking useful information on the Internet or communicating through social networks.
The lifestyle, what we eat and drink, fashion style are also influenced by the media. We choose food according to the ads we see while watching a movie or a TV show, the fashion style according to what the ?stars? are wearing, thus originality is lost in the mists of time.
We also spend all our free time according to the information we find on the Internet, from various magazines, newspapers or through some programs or documentation. Moreover, media also influences the lives of children and adolescents and parents should be aware of this and intervene when necessary.
On the other hand, media influences how a person perceives reality and how they express their ideas. Personal opinions are shaped by the information that bombs at any step. So media influences how we perceive society and the reality in which we live, being often deformed even the views on politics, but also culture ? the media influence on art being of a great heights.
?Arts and Media
Since ancient times people have tried to communicate in various ways and art is one of them. Any means of artistic expression is an effective way to communicate a message, an idea, a mood, emotions and feelings of people able to decipher the artwork itself. If by mid-nineteenth century architecture, sculpture and painting were the main categories of visual arts, the changes in social life (especially industrial revolution) have radically changed the way art and culture are generally perceived. Besides being the primary means of artistic expression, both in the visual arts and in literature, theater and dance have changed, as other artistic actions emerged, which are mostly in the so-called ?media art?.
Like media, art also has an important role for the entire evolution of society, as between these two powerful elements there is a strong cause-effect connection, given that art influences society and society in turn influences the means of artistic expression.
In terms of visual arts, they are undoubtedly influenced by the evolution of technology. Film also became an art in the true sense of the word while being an interesting means of communicating a message.
Pop art can be considered a convincing example to demonstrate the close relationship between art in general and the media, given that this way of artistic expression is closely linked to both the evolution of technology; the latter field uses painting, sculpture and graphic art to promote certain consumer products, messages and ideas. This contemporary art is labeled as kitsch many times.
Contemporary literature is also influenced by the media in some cases depending on the chosen theme, but in most cases depending on the type of literature promoted through the media. Even though the links between literature and media should be close, considering that both literature ? like any other art ? and media have as a main purpose to send a message;? the differences between these two areas are quite large. Some authors and some literary works are more promoted than other and often the literary value of such ?works? is minimal, so true works of art are to be appreciated by specialists or by people with a rich culture.
Besides art itself is influenced by the media, as? mentioned above, the way a person perceives reality is also altered. Thus, media influences not only art but also how it is perceived and, more importantly, valued. Reading or listening to? news about the art itself, various works of art or searching for information on the museum a person wants to visit? are activities that will alter the assessment of the work of art by the viewer.
Therefore, the influence of the media is felt in every area, including art, the culture of a people being thus strongly influenced by the explosion of information which in most cases consumes all our energy.
