The Essentials for a BBQ:

Article Directory :: Food & Drink Articles

Summer is the season of barbeques. The time to invite over friends, sit outside, have a few drinks and eat some grilled meat and vegetables. Men tend to handle the grill while the women prepare the salads, marinate the meat and twist some cocktails. Every barbeque needs:

Sunshine:

While of course it is possible to have a barbeque when the sun isn't shining, it is much preferred to have one while it is. With the sun out guests can enjoy their time outdoors, get a bit of a tan and stay outside late into the night.

Friends:

Hosting a barbeque for your friends and family is a great way to spend an afternoon. Gather everyone around and have them bring a few things along to contribute. Gather around a table or find a spot out in the sun where you can drink, laugh, listen to music and catch up.

Meat:

Meat is the number one food to throw on the grill. Barbeques give meat a certain flavour which is very closely associated to summertime. You can barbeque anything and everything from ribs to pork chops, steaks, to lamb and shish kebabs.

Vegetables:

Vegetables are the next best thing to throw on the barbeque. Bell peppers, aubergines, zucchinis and onions work especially well. There are also some nice cheeses that work well on the grill such as Haloumi, the Lebanese cheese. These make wonderful options for vegetarians.

Salads:

Speaking of vegetarian options, fresh salads make a great addition to a barbeque. They are cool and refreshing which is ideal for a hot summers day. Ceaser salad, pasta salad, Iranian and fruit salads all go brilliantly with barbeque.

Drinks:

It's always nice to complement your meal with an ice cold beer or a crisp glass of rose wine. Summer cocktails like marguerites, mojitos and mai thais are also really nice. Sometimes, people like to fill watermelons with vodka and let them sit overnight. Then guests can scoop out pieces with a spoon and enjoy the mix of flavours.

Shade:

While a blazing sun is always a nice touch to a summer's day spent outside with friends, you must be careful. Make sure that you find some shade to sit under. If you don't have any trees on your deck or property, your best off buying an umbrella or two. It also much more enjoyable to eat when you're not sweating buckets.

Now that you've got your friends and your food you can go have some fun!
