Louis Smith of FltOps.com was quoted as announcing that the next decade will be the longest and largest pilot hiring boom in the history of the airline industry. It is almost impossible to discredit this statement when you think about there are several other large players in the airline industry also forecasting the same. Nearly all articles, blog?s and news bulletins online are quoting figures based on the number of pilot vacancies that will be required over the following 10 to twenty years.
So what is it that?s fuelling this boom? Right now we are seeing expansion in air travel and a demand for air cargo transport on a worldwide basis. Growth is powerful not only for NorthAmerica but also in the Asia pacific market and the middle east. Secondly we are now seeing many pilots approaching the compulsory retirement age of sixty five which may leave a major deficiency of pilots particularly in the United States.
Figures published by Boeing make it clear that worldwide there will be a requirement for over 450,000 pilots worldwide by 2029. Curiously around forty percent of this number will be needed for the Asia Pacific area. A speaker from Boeing stated that we are expecting to have a deficiency in the number or required airline pilots considering the quantity of orders and sales, both current and future. One only has to take a look at the orders taken by Airbus and Boeing at the last Paris Airshow to see why they have made such a statement.
So has the boom started, are Airlines Hiring now? To my mind that answer to that is well and truly yes! The job vacancies for pilots in flight global for instance have doubled in the previous few months. Leading the charge in the recruitment of pilots right now is China. Chinese airlines are aggressively hiring and they are steadily improving incomes and conditions to attract experienced Airline Pilots. Boeing have anticipated China will need around 180,000 pilots over the next twenty years.
Boeing have also stated the US will need around 100,000 pilots in the following fifteen to twenty years. Emirates have claimed they require another 500 pilots by 2012 and British Airways will hire 800 pilots by 2016. With such aggressive hiring worldwide taking place it is difficult to prove the boom hasn?t yet started.
On his blog, Steve Brennan an International Airline Pilot writes about airline related issues. Topics like Pilot Salary and Airlines Hiring and more are covered.
